This spring, Vincent Goes North returns for a new edition. Following the strong previous rounds, we are launching a new edition of the photography program for young creators from the Amsterdam region, with a focus on Amsterdam Noord.
Vincent Goes North is a creative program in which participants develop their own art concept. Over the course of the program, they create a powerful photograph and a personal poem that reflect themes such as identity, resilience, growth and perspective. The work is inspired by both the life and legacy of Vincent van Gogh and the participantsā own stories and experiences.
Guided by a professional photographer, participants explore how to translate personal experiences into visual language. Through workshops and sessions, they learn how to work with light, composition and storytelling, and how a single image can carry meaning and emotion.
In collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum
Vincent Goes North is organized in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum. The program aims to introduce more young people from Amsterdam Noord to Van Gogh and his work, while connecting his story to contemporary perspectives and voices.
As part of the program, participants visit the Van Gogh Museum for a guided tour and workshop. Sessions take place at A Lab, where we are able to use the spaces for workshops and development sessions.
From process to public presentation
The program works toward a public presentation of the participantsā work. Details about the exhibition format will be shared at a later stage. To get an overview of previous editions and outcomes, we invite you to explore our end-of-year overview, which brings together results from across all Common Culture programs.
In addition, selected works may be shown across the city through JCDecauxās The Gallery, a project that brings photography into public space via digital screens throughout Amsterdam.
Participation in Vincent Goes North is free.
The program kicks off on March 3, with weekly sessions taking place in Amsterdam Noord.
