Over the past months, participants of Cultuur Krakers worked closely with the Grachtenmuseum and the Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam to explore how cultural institutions can better connect with younger audiences.
Through a combination of research, museum visits, workshops and conversations with professionals from the cultural field, participants examined the visitor experience from their own perspective. They explored questions around accessibility, relevance, communication and participation, while developing a deeper understanding of how cultural institutions operate.
Throughout the program, participants were supported by professionals including Martin van Engel, Rubiah Balsem and Chafik Benhmidouch, who challenged them to think critically, refine their ideas and translate observations into concrete concepts.
The program culminated in a series of final presentations at both the Grachtenmuseum and the Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam. During these sessions, participants shared their research, insights and proposals with the museum teams.
The presentations marked the final stage of a process that moved from observation and questioning towards concept development and practical recommendations.
Cultuur Krakers is built on the idea that young people are not only visitors of cultural institutions, but can also actively contribute to shaping their future. By creating space for dialogue and collaboration, the program brings together new perspectives and institutional knowledge.
We would like to thank the Grachtenmuseum and the Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam for their openness and collaboration throughout the program, and all participants for their curiosity, commitment and critical perspective.
